Hello Just a line to tell you what a great weekend it was at the Saltersgate. However work managed to mess up my weekend I could not get away on Friday until late. By the time I got to Whitby it was Late. So I ended up over at the Bay (Robin Hoods Bay) Folk Club. Had a great night as usual it has to be said. It was not untill Saturday afternoon that I managed to get over to the Saltersgate I had I was told missed a great session on the Friday Night. It was a late finish 1am when the Landlord decided it was time for his bed. Well he was up to serve breakfasts to his guests next morning. B&B was only £12 a night so many had booked in to save the drive to Whitby. There were the hardy types on the Caravan Park but it was a little cold for camping. We had a relaxing afternoon session with MC Deric Elliot taking a back seat whilst Liam Haywood entertained and organised everyone. His stories had people on the edge of there seats (Angie told us that they had just had a story teller vist his school). He then organised the singers filling in from time to time with a Madjic trick! The main room filled up nicely for the evening session. The regulars from the Tap and Spile Sunday Night session arrived on mass with voices and instruments.
One song sticks in my head it was from Wendy Price! I must ask her for the words. It started by discribing a nice little musicains session with fiddles, melodians, madolins, banjos and so on and then they arrive "Sixteen Morons with there Borons". Well depending on whether or not you play the Boron you will get the gist of the rest of the song!
The rest of the weekend is just a blur however don't worry if you missed it. We are having another weekend but not untill July. However I'm sure the landlord who is sufering from the lack of trade due to the Foot and Mouth restrictions will be only too pleased to host a MUDCAT Gathering! He deserves the support for the support he has given in the past when he was the landlord at the Saltersgate.
