The verse that Toadfrog supplied above is quoted in a book titled "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent." by Washington Irving, 1819-20. It is in the chapter called "Christmas Eve." This chapter contains another verse which, although it is quoted at a different point in the story, seems to go with the first -- at least it has the same meter:Come, bring with a noise,
My metric, merrie boys,
The Christmas Log to the firing;
While my good dame, she
Bids ye all be free,
And drink to your hearts' desiring.The same story contains lots more verse, but a quick browse through didn't reveal any more that seems to be part of the same poem.
