Freelance illustrators and photographers followed the Tasini case closely, too, because as freelance independent contractors, the rights to our work were in jeopardy just as they were for writers. There was a huge sigh of relief when the writers won their case against the New York Times, then on the 25th, the memo became public. (It was posted on the Illustrators' Forum on the 25th.) The memo is truly from the NY Times, and unfortunately is not a suprise, given their track record in dealing with the freelance creatives whose work they want, which brought on the Tasini lawsuit to begin with.
