This song brings back memories -- I remember hearing it on the AM radio in the kitchen as a lad and thinking it epitomized the saccharine unreality of the pop scene. That and Bing singing "Love Forever True". I think this was just about the time Elvis Presley emerged and put the world on its ear, musically speaking.

Compared to this over-refined stuff he sounded like some kind of alien. But because he seemed to throw real passion into his act, it appealed very strongly to the alienated.
