Subject: Thought for the day - 14 October 2001
Things seem to be coming together in ways which bring new connections with the old in my life. About two weeks ago, I wrote a spontaneous piece about the summer of 1966, when I was 13, living in the mountains of Colorado for the summer. It was an idyllic time for me and I was feeling a little bit nostalgic, esp. about my very first true love, Arthur.

After sending my piece in an email as a reply to another Mudcatter, I decided to see if I could reconnect with any of the people I met that summer. I knew the young men, including Arthur, had probably gone to Vietnam. I'd never heard from any of them, again.

I went to Yahoo People Search, put in Arthur's aunt's name and found someone by that name in the area. I wrote her a letter, asking if she was THE "Aunt Ida" and did she remember me.

This week, I received a beautiful letter. It was indeed Aunt Ida and she caught me up on all of the news, including the fact that all of her sons, plus Arthur, made it through Vietnam, safely! She said some pretty sweet things and it made me feel so good to have written to her. We will stay in touch now.

There have been a couple of others things which have come up, out of my past, which have felt good, scary (as in confronting old demons), and exciting. I am sure the reconnecting has a lot to do with coping with what has been happening in the world in the past month. Regardless, it feels good and right and I am grateful for the opportunity to move ahead in the comfort of some of the past.

Thanks,

kat
