Thread Name: What songs can you sing in a folk club?
Subject: RE: BS: What songs can you sing in a folk club?
I am very attached to traditional music and song---but I ain't no "traddie bigot". Rubbish can pop up in any genre, and tradional material has a very large share of crap. Like the 200 year-old antique jamjar, it may very well be genuinely "traditional", but like the jam jar would be better reburied. I have always been lucky in my folk club venues in that a broad spectrum of music wasn't just tolerated, but enjoyed.Bab Dickson had a wide range of repertoire [she went out of our reach by recording an album of Beatles songs] , and how about Archie Fisher's "Sunsets I have Galloped Into"? Like a few others, though, I would suggest that the likes of "Achey Breakey Heart" and "Rhinestone Cowbow" should go over well----over the nearest high cliff, preferably with a bottomless bog at the bottom-----
