As I understand it, when John Tams originally wrote Rolling Home it was for a play in which he was involved. He only wrote two verses, "Round goes the wheel..." and "The gentry... ".
His friend Roy Bailey really liked the song, but said he felt there ought to be more verses before he (Roy) could feel it was complete enough for him to do in concert. John then wrote the other verses. I first heard it recorded by Swan Arcade, who sang four verses, but not the one starting "The frost is on the hedgrerow..."
Two, four or five verses, - what a great song!!!
