Ron, you must have watched an older 'Last Night'. This year the conductor was American Leonard Slatkin, and they changed the programme and left out all the more 'patriotic' numbers which usually produce the kind of mirth that seemed inappropriate so soon after 11 September. Slatkin left 'Jerusalem' in, chose the final movement from Beethoven's Ninth and, incidentally, made a very dignified speech.
