Hi Doug ... great thread. I well remember when I was a kritter about 9 or so. That was in the late 40's ... 1940's, not 1840's. Every Summer, the "carney" (traveling carnival) came to town. They had the usual exciting (to a kid) rides, the girly peep shows, and the medicine show. My brother, lucky devil, was five years older than (he still is by the way) and he was able to sneak into the peep show. Then we'd talk all night about what he saw. I well remember when I found an empty bottle of "medicine" from the carney show in the trash. I asked Dad about it and he said that it was some of the best white lightning he's ever had ... and he and Mom were experts.
