If all else fails with the hints given above, which are all good, you could try making a "thimble" which is often used by tenor banjo players for melody picking. I don't use one myself as I don't have a plectrum problem but (a href="http://www.irishbanjo.com/tenor.html#thimble>this site explains how to make one.
