Thread Name: Art went to the crossroads...
Subject: RE: Art went to the crossroads...
Years back I can recall at night at Lyman and Carolyn King's in Fulton New York. Our Art gave a house concert that went well into the shank of the evening. In a voice unaffected by brogues he sang on into the nite. As I recall he passed on a request for Loafer's Glory and was about to begin Travelin' Shoes when he broke a string. The recoil of the string layed back across his hand leaving a welt where it socked his thumb. Not missing a beat he began a song " Lovely Nancy had a shoe repair shop...." done accapella as he fixed the string. I watched and listened to Art that nite and thot, "Here is a guy with style."

I wonder now as the years have passed why Art's great talent is being wasted. Even if Art isn't up to playing just now if a workshop on stage craft and how to perform were offered at a festival I attended and Art were the instructor, I'd be in the front row.

PS: I often wish that I could play banjo like Art. I don't have a clue what the style is but its perfect for the songs I do.
