Thread Name: UK GATHERING, STONY STRATFORD 2002
Subject: RE: UK GATHERING, STONY STRATFORD 2002
Attendance Sorry I haven't responded earlier, Dai - I've just got back from a week in Devon, having sung at the Bideford Folk Club, which is great. They had a workshop on harmonising on Saturday, too. Try to drop in the next time you are passing on a Thursday!

Stony Stratford Well done in setting up Stony Stratford! I knew that if someone was willing to take the plunge there would be a lot of interest, wherever it is to be held. As a Stratfordian myself - well, Stratford-upon-Avonian that is - I'm sure I will feel at home! Count me in! I will either be indoor camping or B&B depending on ...

Real Ale It will certainly be worth setting up real ale in the hall for after the pubs have closed (which presumably means that we will need to serve it ourselves, rather than getting a local landlord in). But don't get too much if you intend encouraging people to go to the pubs during the evening! Have you got any local CAMRA members who are folkies? Perhaps they would be interested in setting it up for you? How much was drunk at Llanstock? I think it was 2 x 9 gallons and it ran out. There were only 30 ish people but on the Saturday night we did have the ceili at the hall rather than going to the pubs and a few locals attended aswell. No doubt Llanfair can confirm.

Indoor Camping I guess most people attending will be indoor camping, so having separate room(s) for it will be helpful, enabling people to set themselves up when they arrive and then not to have clear their camp beds away for singing/dancing events each night.

Cost If you are going to cater when people arrive (and a breakfast of cereal, toast, coffee and tea?) and have to pay £100 ish for the hall for the weekend, then there will certainly need to be a charge for everyone, eg £4 per night for indoor camping and breakfast plus £4 for attendance to cover the use of the hall and the meal on arrival. Clearly, you would need to do some more detailed projections but I would have thought that something like that would cover it. Obviously, the beer should be charged per pint to recover the cost, along with any other drinks on offer, such as cider, lemonade and orange juice.

Come fill up your glasses and let us be merry...
Alan
