Sorry to have to add a negative note, but I used to be fan of Judy Collins. Then I went to hear her sing at the University of Kansas in Lawrence (this was quite a few years ago, 15 maybe.) The damn concert was so loud it was over the threshhold of pain. People were yelling from the floor for the sound to be turned down, but to no avail. We talked to the sound man during the intermission, and he said he couldn't do anything, that the problem was on stage.

I wanted so much to stay. I put plugs of wet toilet paper in my ears. I stood with my back to a pillar. Nothing helped - it hurt! Finally, we left. As we crossed the parking lot, we heard her voice, huge and totally unnatural, all around us. (We could have saved the price of admission.) It sounded as if a Judy Collins as large as a skyscraper was towering over us, singing.

I am no longer a fan.
