Now, you may be right about "stoker."

And it may be that the lyricist had heard of a hot rod referred to as a "stroker," but misheard the word or was victim of a typo. "Stoker" is a whole lot closer to "stroker" than "calaboose" is to "car," so I find this explanation much more plausible in this case.
