Having been raised in traditional Irish music, I heard the song only sometimes sung at the speed of light a la Danny Kaye fashion (pubs where the singers are thoroughly pissed or as some say, rather well oiled). Otherwise, sung at a tempo which others can understand the lyrics and join in.
