I've been fooling around with "file conversion", too. A couple I've had some luck with include "FreeRip" - a freeware download from hitsquad.com, and "Goldwave" - shareware / demo version downloadable.

Did you download this *.MIDI from R.J. SAMP's Civil War Bugler Website (as I did)? I brought them (Ooodles of bugle calls) up on Myriad Software's "Melody Assistant" Music Notation program, and "violla"; a printable score to practice with!

Good luck on " El Deguello"; As I recall it's got a range beyond what most regulation bugles will give you. I think it was written for a keyed bugle or one of those big old Clairon D'Ordnance B-Flats with a "pigtail" leadpipe. I think it is on one of the casette tapes I got from RJ, and it is an impressive piece indeed!
