The animals kneel to the East and Pray
And each one has a tale to tell
Of Christmas Eve that first Noel

then I do donkey, cow, sheep, dove.

I said the rooster in his pen
I caroled his birth to the world of Men
I announce it anew as dawn comes again
I said the rooster, in his pen

Last verse:

And thus it was by some good spell
In the stable dark each beast will tell
Of the gift he gave Emmanual
On Christmas Day, the first Noel
