And the joker got awayMy 6yo kindergartener came home and sang us this song last night. He didn't learn it from any book or record or movie, but from older kids at school. Who in turn learned it from older kids, and so on, back to when his older sibs were that age, and even back to when *I* was that age.
Here we have the folk process in pure and undiluted form. By any definition this is a folk song. A short one, granted. But it's a folk song.
Has anybody studied or collected the songs that kids learn from each other? That may be the last refuge, in this increasingly media-saturated age, of pure folk process.
