Breaking news.... I emailed the fellow who sent me the Carnegie tape and told him what happened. He answered me a little while ago with this:

Dear Kitty hi i'm so glad you like the tapes man what a bummer that one got eaten even if you can straighten it out and re-connect it ( if it's actually broken ) it will probably not be the same crinkled tape sounds all weird when you play it i'll just make a new one and send it... ...i'll try to get it done this weekend and get it in the mail monday see ya and sorry about the tape and glad to do it over
