Subject: RE: BS: How to be a Hero
I have said it here many times. I see heroes every day. You just have to look. That is the value in Mr. Crawford's story. As he said, the act for which he got the MOH was one day in his life. But did you notice the detail with which Col. Moschgat could remember how Mr. Crawford went about his duties as a janitor before he realized who this gentleman was? Actually, the fact that the Colonel put two and two together on this speaks pretty well for him. It shows me that he also cared enough to be aware. In my mind, the incident for which he got the MOH only hinted at what he was made of. But his life since, the work of his hands, the simple pride in doing the best job he could do, regardless of the job........that is where one sees the true nature of the man. There are so many heroic people out there, my friends. If we look around we will see them all the time. We are blessed to have the Bill Crawford's. But when I watch the average single parent struggling and sacrificing their own life to give their kids an even chance..........I know we are more blessed. When I cut through the bullshit, and watch the real struggles and sacrifices being made for special kids by their special parents (listening, Spaw?), I am in awe of the heroes walking about me.
Thanks for starting this one, Amos. It is good to think about these people, and thank God they exist.
