Do you know someone who knows what a GFCI is and who can check it ? If not, I will talk you through determining if you have one. As for checking it, you need a testing device because the test button may not always be accurate. I could tell you how to make a home made tester, but it's a bit dangerous if you don't know what you're doing... molten copper and flaming plastic tend to put people off.
