Thread Name: Folkscene online: excellent radio site
Subject: Folkscene online: excellent radio site
Since we don't have any folk music on the radio here on this island (with the strong exception of Hawaiian music--there are stations that play nothing but), I keep looking around to find it on the Net. FolkScene is the best online folk music radio program I've found so far. Roz and Howard Larman had a folk radio show in Los Angeles for about 30 years and were apparently forced off by creeping commercialism. Their show is now carried by KPIG.com, and all of us should thank KPIG for doing so. The FolkScene home page is here, or you can go right here and start listening. It's a nice combination of traditional music and more contemporary music with a traditional "feel". Well, I think it's a nice combination, anyway! You have a choice of RealAudio or MP3 format in two bandwidths, and they have a "live" channel (which changes weekly) and an "archive" channel. Check it out!

(I used to listen to WKSU's folk show from Kent State U., but that leans heavily toward contemporary singer-songwriters, and even though I are one of those --well, an amateur one, anyway!-- I still like to hear the more traditionally oriented material.)

Aloha,
Mark
