The Alternative Gift market has been mentioned in several threads. One of the main "gifts" that many of us in our church gave (in the name of our friends and relatives) this year was hunger relief for Afghanistan (a chilren's rescue caravan). I believe that was one of the several charitable gifts for which there were matching funds donated.

It's not to late to give this kind of gift to anyone on your list. You can send them an e-card to tell them about what you've "bought" them. (You can still give material gifts, too, if--as I do--you enjoy finding special presents for special friends.)
