I thought that "The Man Who Would Be King" was an admirable adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling story, and in some ways superior to it...but that was just a short story, rather than a novel, so it was easier to encompass on film. Some rather good movies have been ghost-written (so to speak), after their release, into EXTREMELY poor books. Does that count for anything?
