BARNEY O'HARE
Ara, sure my name is Barney. From old Ireland I came from. I left my home in the county Clare, and I landed here this mornin'. Now I just have what brought me here, and a couple of shillings over, And now I'm on to look out for a job. I'm an Irish cattle drover.
I'm Barney O'Hare from the county Clare. I'm an Irish cattle drover. I'm not so green as what you think, although I'm newly over.
When first I landed on Broadway, I thought I was in danger, Till a traffic cop he spotted me, and saw I was a stranger. Says he, "How are you, Barney boy, and when did you come over?" Says I, "I'm on to look out for a job. I'm an Irish cattle drover."
One morning bright 'twas my delight, to look 5th Avenue over, When a maid so sweet, and dressed so neat, says, "Barney, look me over. You look so pat in your Donegal hat." Says I, "I beg your pardon. You may really think that you're in for a drink, but I haven't got a farthin'."
I've seen the lights on Broadway. I've seen the golden west. I've been to California, Colorado and the rest; But of all the places that I've been, there's one I have a yearnin'. It's the harvest fair. I'd be surely there, to bid them top of the mornin'.
I work all day on the Great White Way. I'm as lonesome as can be; For the crowds go by, and they shout, "aye, aye." I'm on the force, you see; But I miss the harvest days of home, among the Irish clover, Too a tone of the sea, for a wee cup of tea, and the life of a cattle drover.
I'm Barney O'Hare etc.,
Taken from a very old record. Hope I got all the words right.
