I think the original usage had only slightly derogatory meaning Jack. Much like I might be a hick. The word seems to have originated from peanut farmers as crackers, a big crop in that area. Later racial usage was probably bound to happen. There were several sports teams that I can recall using "Crackers'....one was a baseball team in Atlanta.

This isn't an argument, just a bit of offtopic interest. As far as the thread title, I figured redneck jokes.....and frankly I don't think a thread saying with a title of "I'm buying crackers" would be thought of in the same way.
