Try open G: (DGDGBD) great for country blues and easy to pick up as the 2nd, 3d, and 4th strings stay the same as standard tuning. Useful for Airs and O'Carolan stuff if you play as much of the the melody as you can by moving up and down the 'B'string, using the others as drones.
