Subject: HELP...Tenderly Sleeping...scource info
A friend sings this carol and has asked me to find out some information about it
I've searched the web and discovered that it may have Congregational/Baptist Church origins and may have been written or set to music by Caleb Simper
Can anyone give any more info???

JESUS, THE LORD IS BORN (TENDERLY SLEEPING)

Tenderly sleeping, so tranquil and sweet
Jesus, the loving and mild
Bright was the daybeam that circled his head
Guarding the Holy Child
Quickly the shepherd's from Bethlehem's plain
Hasted their homage to pay
Bearing their gifts and their treasures if gold
Crowning his natal day

CHORUS
Tenderly sleeping, so tranquil and sweet
Jesus, the loving and mild
Bright was the daybeam that circled his head
Guarding the Holy Child

Lifting their heads from the altar of prayer
Robed in their garments of white
Mercy and Truth and the Angels of Peace
Met at the gates of light
Prophets and Patriarchs gone to their rest
Welcome that beautiful morn
Singing triumphant with rapture untold
Jesus the Lord is born

How can we honour the saviour divine
Seated in glory above?
How can we thank him for what he has done?
How can we sing his love?
Thus we shall honour and hallow his name
Thus will our offering be
Blessed Redeemer, the gift of the soul
Gladly we bring to thee

Any info will be greatfully received ......Thanks
