Thanks, Dan. It only took about 9 months of looking. I've already found from it that Hector MacNeill's "My Boy Tammy" (Scots Musical Museum, #502, 1803) is the earliest version of "My Boy Billy" with music. Whether it's the original version of "Billy Boy" or not, I don't know.
