Subject: RE: 10K for a Uke??!!
Yea , brothers, the rationing of Koa wood for many years allows us to give this instrument some of the respect it deserves. On pronunciation, nothing to do with Yuka, the legendary brother of Sir Peter Lely( I quote the dictionary of Doggerel). But still, as Spaw said originally, a UKE. Is the price proportionate with the work that went into Orville Gibson's mandolins? NO! There are people in the UK who will pay such amounts for splendidly made Banjoleles, such as those made by Abbott. But whatever the final price, a uke is a uke, and $2000 is a fair price for any koa uke, discounting historic associations
