Dunno about live music in Finland but one of my favourite albums at the moment is 'On the Shoulders of the Great Bear'. It's by and Englishman, Andrew Cronshaw, but features some stunning Finnish folk music and musicians.I couldn't find a web page for him but an album review I read says
This astonishing new performance comes to the UK from its debut in Kaustinen, a vilage at the heart of Finland's current burgeoning tradition-rooted music and dance evolution. The performers draw the audience into the world of the old, strong ways of Finno-Ugrian runo-song, kantele playing and the Siberian bear-feast. Music, dance and visual effects suround and surprise the promenade audience. Electric zither supremo and world music collaborator Andrew Cronshaw has attracted an outstading line-up of creative artists for this tour - supporting the recent release of the album - including lead-singer Jenny Wilhelms, vocalist Heikki Laitinen and the extraordinary performance artist Reijo Kela.
Perhaps Kaustinen, Finno-Ugrian runo-song, kantele playing or any of the mentioned names may be a good starting point. I would have a look but I have just spent about 4 hours tidying up and I'm knackered - so I'm off to bed!
Good luck and enjoy the visit. Keep us posted.
Cheers
