Thread Name: Help: Price of Cigarettes - How Much????
Subject: RE: Help: Price of Cigarettes - How Much????
Anywhere from $2.45 to $3.70 per pack in my city...I used to think the nicotine gum was a far too outrageously expensive drug delivery system, but at about $0.40 per piece, it's only a little over twice as expensive as each cigarette would be. So I finally bought some. It's not the same, but it's getting the job done so far. [BR] [BR] One question though: If tobacco is so bad, why doesn't the U.S. government just ban it? To me it's quite duplicitous to collect extra tax dollars from something that kills people, and justify the collection of those very dollars by the fact that the product kills people! We all know the answer: If it was banned, the politicians couldn't keep their pockets lined by the lobbyists, and couldn't collect tax dollars to hand out in their favorite vote-buying programs. (This goes for both parties--No partisan politics in this post.) Prediction: If cigarettes become much more expensive, look for the mafia to return to the bootlegging business in this country. If that doesn't happen, look for major tobacco manufacturers to move their operations across the Mexican border, then start using "undoccumented importation" methods to keep from going under.
