Oddly enough, I asked a farm manager about the value of potatoes (compared to sugar beet) the night before last. IIRC, the answer for potatoes was anything between £40 and £100 per ton. So there you go, I'm not sure how many tons you would have to buy to qualify for those prices but if you bought at the right time, you could get them for under 2p per pound.
