The thing about writing grants is that you have to sell your grant-maker on what you're asking them to fund. You have to know the organization inside and out, so I will be the first to say that I couldn't write grants for Mudcat. At least, not with as little as I know about it. What I did for the library several years ago was to create a catalog of organizations that fund libraries. It took a while, and is in a large (one of those 5" ones) 3-ring binder. I found everything I could on each organization itself, who it's officers are, then called, emailed, wrote for, or downloaded their applications and information about who they have previously given money to. Now when the director or associate directors start looking for dollars for specific projects, out comes my catalog and they find likely sources. (It took several months to complete, in with my main job of writing various library publications). I check out those organizations to see if everything is still up-to-date, and periodically I look around to see who can be added, who must be deleted. (Reminds me that it's time to update it again. . . ).
