Thread Name: What's in a name (Irish ceilih tunes)
Subject: What's in a name
This won't appeal to you "singers" out there, but it has never failed to amuse me the number of alternative names there are for Irish ceilih tunes. The "best" one I've come up with so far is a reel that I know as "In the Tap Room".. I've found 19 different/alternative titles for this tune ranging from "The Blossom of the New Tree" to "The Youngest Daughter". A close second to this is the Jig "Paddy Clancy's" which boasts 17 alternative names. Is it any wonder Irish music is so confusing? I have my own personal theory why this happens.. I should like to hear anyone elses... Cheers and happy St Patrick's Day to one and all Mick
