Breezy, "What day is it?" would be Pa ddiwrnod yw hi? (as in what day is it today). Did you want to know what the dates of the Festival this year would be? If so, Beth yw dyddiadau'r Wyl eleni? (And they seem to be the third weekend in July usually.) I laughed at your, 'y soldiwr'! Haven't heard that mild slap-in-the-face for a while! Gymanfa (as in Gymanfa Ganu) is, these days, kept for hymn festivals although the word really means a gathering together (convocation?) of people for a specific purpose.
