Steam was never a real band. It seems that some guy had recorded a bunch of songs under his real name (I forget what is was), and needed one more tune to make a complete album. NaNa Hey Hey was picked, and was supposed to be the worst song on the album. Seems that DJ's liked the song, and it became the hit. The performer was so embarrassed that he invented the name Steam, rather that have his real name associated with it. I got this info from a series of books called Uncle John's Bathroom Readers.
