I found this:
"They Live - Another John Carpenter entry. This time our everyman ("Nada" - played by, of all people, Rowdy Roddy Piper, the wrestler) discovers that aliens have been hypnotising us into not noticing them (to us, they look normal), while they strip our planet of its mineral wealth. With special sunglasses, he (and the 'underground') can spot them and the subliminal messages that control everyone. And then, its clobberin' time (or, as Roddy says, "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass.") Alternately very clever (the subliminal message on the dollar bill: "This is your God") and a little clumsy (e.g. the whole Nada discovers the underground thing); still well worth a watch."

Which seems more familiar because I remember seeing the trailer for this on many occasions.
