Thread Name: Who's the 'Best' folk singer you know?
Subject: RE: Who's the 'Best' folk singer you know?
you all have clouded my mind with so many obvious choices...(Redpath, MacColl, Robertson, Fisher, etc...)..and I agree with Ferrara..*Dwayne Thorpe*, whom I get to hear in person every year or so!..this man takes songe we all know and seldom sing and brings them to life! About 3 times in my life I have had the hair stood up on the back of my neck listening to music...and one was the first time I heard Dwayne Thorpe sing "Tenting Tonight"..and there is a local woman whom most of you have never heard of..Janice Cole, who has moved me SO many times singing "Ned of the Hill", "Grey Funnel Line", "Fiddler's Green", the Scottish "Country Lassie", "Kitchen Man"...etc......once, after a concert where David Jones was part of a group, there was a 'singaround' for the audience. Part way into it, Janice launched into "Tramp On the Street"...and before she finished the first verse, David Jones who had been busy with the 'after the concert' business, came back to the auditorium and stood transfixed till it was over...and then applauded her in the most gracious way I have seen!..

and I'll bet YOU all know some people yourselves that will never be 'famous'...but maybe should have been...

now I am going to go thumb thru my records and see who I have missed...
