I've been reading Greil Marcus' The Old, Weird America: The World of Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes (a reissue of Invisible Republic with the title Marcus originally wanted. It's kind of a funhouse tour of Big Pink, Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music, the West Virginia Mine War of 1920-21, with stops along the way in the most unexpected places. It's about a lot more than just Bob Dylan, but it's always about music, even when it's talking (or rambling) about history. Interesting read.Chris
