I think the Mac I mentioned earlier was Mick MacCarthy, I'm sure he was the writer of the song, He used to met up with my fiddler with a newly composed song and tune and John Carey would write it down in musical notation for him. Unfortunatly I can't verify this as John died two years ago from a heart attack. I think Mick MacCarthy came from Tipparary.
