It's not just the number of messages, but also the length of each message. Some threads can load quickly with over 100 short messages, but where people are cutting and pasting long newspaper articles or the full text of all versions from A to J of a Child ballad, it can take for ever to load a 30-message thread.

Keep it brief, and link rather than paste when it isn't lyrics.
