Thread Name: Help: Lady House Blues radio play audio?
Subject: Lady House Blues radio play audio?
This was heard about 15 years ago on NPR. It took place during WWII, with a house full of the women of one family, multi-generations, with all but one of their men off to war. According to the person who told me about it, they go through a succession of army officers coming to the house to tell them of another male relative killed in the war, until it finally comes down to the older woman, mother or aunt of the others. Up to this point, it has been a fairly ordinary play with lots of camaraderie, etc.
When the army comes to tell the older woman about her man's death, they offer her $3,000 in compensation. The stunning end of the play, listeners here her refusing their money, saying if she takes it, it will mean she sold her man to them to be killed and she doesn't ever want them to think it was okay to take him away and have him get killed.
I am not telling it very well, but it sounded stunning and I'd really like to hear it. A quick search on google didn't come up with anything. Do any of you remember it?
