I think of someone like Mississippi John Hurt. As far as I'm concerned, he just kept getting better. If he were alive today, he'd probably be EVEN better. When do you think Doc Watson peaked? Or will he ever? Maybe it's the musicians who stay grounded in the tradition who can stay at a high level, or even continue to get better because they're playing music that doesn't follow momentary fads.
