Like many Canadians, I have been a hockey fan as long as I can remember. I know a lot of people in Canada smirk about women playing hockey. My daughter has played for four years now, so I have developed an interest in tghe women's game. What I saw tonight was one of the grittiest performances by a team that I have ever seen. Going into tonight's game Canada have lost 8 straight games to the U.S.A.
The U.S.A. apparently have been undefeated this season in 35 games.
I played hockey at the Provincial JR. A. level, even tried out in the minor pro leagues. I only say this to back up my next point. Tonight was the most one sided officiating that I have ever seen. Period. The U.S. had 11 Power Plays, a few of them they had a two man advantage. It seemed that every time Canada even looked at a U.S. player they were penalized. At no time did they seem to get flustered or break their focus. They just played as hard as they could for 60 minutes.
I don't think I've ever seen a team earn a victory like the Canadian Women did tonight. Way to go ladies. You should be very, very proud.
