Sins, it sounds like you have at least one virus on your system, that may have gotten in when they tried to install RoadRunner...or may have been there already. If you have an antivirus program, try to run a full system scan. If you don't, get one (I'd recommend either Norton AntiVirus or McAfee Virus Scan -- don't go for bargains here) and scan your entire system. When you install the program it will try to access the internet to download the latest virus definitions. With luck, it will find a way to do that which doesn't require your browser. With even more luck, that will enable you at least to get your system back to the way it was before RR.
In addition, you should call your cable company and go as high up in the chain of command as you need to in order to find somebody who will listen to you and get the thing working.
I agree with 'Spaw, I've had (knock! knock!) no problems with RoadRunner in the few months I've had the service. And even though RR uses MS Outlook as their default email, I never use it; most viruses are built to cruise on Outlook and Outlook Express. Good luck! And feel free to send me a PM if you run into more problems.
