Subject: RE: Help: The Roadrunner From Hell
A rant and thread creep, so please ignore if you are looking for information. To me, all computers are from Hell, but like wives, we are stuck with them. I was going along happily until I got an upgrade on McAfee antivirus and contracted for their daily service. This worked fine for a while except that every time I started the computer I was told to hit a key to continue. Some file instruction was missing. The virus updates worked fine until they put out an another upgrade. After that, updates would start to load but never finish. Support from McAfee suggested changed settings and an upgrade on Internet Explorer. I had a tutor helping me with Office 2000, and she couldn't help. Her husband, an expert computer consultant ($200/hr range), searched for an hour before he found the missing file instruction that caused the "continue" error. It took another hour before he got everything working (changed settings, etc., etc. The McAfee won't work with the old Netscape program available here from the local high-speed cable company. He didn't charge, bless him, because he was just helping his wife. Now I have to learn how to work back and forth between Netscape and Explorer. Even Mudcat looks different (underlines thread names with Explorer, colors changed, and I have to write in my moniker, etc. ). I am used to Netscape and its arrangement of bookmarks, etc. As I said, a rant and thread creep. In Canada; haven't heard of Roadrunner here.
