Thread Name: Lines that really grab you
Subject: RE: Lines that really grab you
From Gillian Welch - "Annabelle"
When I'm dead and buried I'll take a hard life of tears
From every day I've ever known
Anna's in the churchyard, she got no life at all
She only got these words on her stone
John Prine - "Hello In There" So if you're walkin' down the street some day,
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say Hello in there.
One that is not particularly "touching" but very descriptive: from Guy Clark - Rita Balou
She's a rawhide rope and velvet mixture,
Walking, talking Texas texture
High-timing, barroom-flying kind of a girl.
And Kendall...I may be wrong but in MJH's "Shake That Thing" ,I thought it was:
I got something called a wobbley whip, I got that "Elgin" movement in my hips. "Elgin" refers to a make of expensive watch and the "movement" would obviously be of the highest quallity. Robert Johnson used the same phrase in "Walking Blues".
