John...You have to treat those stains with a stain remover before you wash the shirt. Is "Shout" available in the UK? Too late now. Once you wash and dry it, the stains are permanent. As to the smell, try a few drops of anise oil in the wash next time. (Batgoddess's cure-all). And consider a wife or a cleaning lady...maybe not. It is cheaper and less grief simply to replace the shirt.
