Yes, Al was becoming an anachronism, but didn't know it. John Lennon and Yoko Ono had a run-in with him in the late sixties, and ever afterward referred to him as "Al Crapp".All long-haired young people were lazy, good-for-nothing punks in Al's view. It reminds me of Frank Sinatra's vitriolic comments about rock 'n roll music. Mind you, I feel just the way Sinatra did when it comes to rap and most "alternative" music... :-)
Anyway, his parodies of Joan were embarrassingly stupid and wide of the mark. She might better have just ignored them than got mad about it.
